WAIS elite Para-Triathletes Sally Pilbeam and Brant Garvey have set the benchmark for a fantastic 2016 season after winning their respective classifications at the National Championship at the Queensland Tri Series.

The event held in Robina over the 9th and 10th of January formed Round 5 of the series with Pilbeam and Garvey competing in the Paratriathlon National Championship Age Group race.

The event follows a standard triathlon form including a swim, cycle and running leg with Pilbeam finishing in an impressive time of 01:21:00hrs to claim the women’s PT3 category.

The result is sweetened as the event delivers double qualifying points towards the 2016 ITU Paratriathlon World Championships which she has won the past two years.

Brant Garvey ensured his 2016 campaign similarly got off to perfect start, winning the men’s PT2 classification in 1:16.:06hrs.

Garvey is in line to form part of an historic Australian team at the 2016 Rio Paralympics as the sport makes its debut on the Paralympic roster.

Garvey currently leads the PT2 rankings, whilst unfortunately for Pilbeam, her PT3 category is not on the Paralympic schedule for Rio.
