Rollers in Action for First Since Rio Paralympics
The Australian men’s wheelchair basketball team has completed a European Tour recording eight wins and a loss in the group’s first matches since the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
Since Rio, the Rollers group has undergone change, with Craig Friday appointed head coach supported by five-time Paralympian Brad Ness as player/assistant.
The Australian team featuring WA talents Adam Deans, Shaun Norris, Jake Kavanagh and Kim Robbins in addition to Ness, toured the Netherlands and Belgium in a series of matches with Japan, the Netherlands, Spain and Great Britain.
In the Netherlands to begin, the Rollers registered three consecutive victories over Japan before closing their campaign in Papendal with two victories over their hosts.
The group moved on to Belgium, where they were outclassed by an impressive Great Britain outfit, before bouncing back strongly to record wins over Spain, the Netherlands and Japan.
Attention will now turn back towards domestic duties, with the National Wheelchair Basketball League set to commence in mid-May.
