WAIS scholarship holder and Perth Glory W-League footballer Sam Kerr has walked away from the 2009 Westfield W-League Awards in Sydney this week with not one, but two awards under her belt.
The 16 year-old starlet took out the Goal of the Year Award for her long range strike in Round eight of the competition, and was also recognized by her peers with the prestigious Players’ Player of the Year Award.
More impressive however, was Kerr’s Player’s Player Award, having missed the early stages of the competition on youth international duty, Kerr has made a significant impact in each appearance with the Glory in 2009, typified by her hard running and battling qualities.
It is the second straight season that a Perth Glory player has taken home the Goal of the Year Award, following Marianna Tabain’s cracking goal which scooped the award in the competition’s inaugural season.
Despite Kerr’s absence with Australian U16 duty, she played a crucial role in Perth Glory’s second season in the Westfield W-League, with the team enjoying their best season in the competition and only narrowly missing out on a position in the finals series by one point.
The young player is no stranger to the national stage, playing in last year’s inaugural Westfield W-League competition, and also representing Australia a handful of times with the Young Matilda’s.
