Western Australian Para-Triathlete Sally Pilbeam has won a silver medal at the 2018 World Championships on the Gold Coast.
Competing at her sixth titles, Pilbeam recorded a race time of 1 hour, 14 minutes and 44 seconds for second place behind new world champion Hannah Moore of Great Britain.
Remarkably, it was Pilbeam’s third consecutive silver medal at world championship level with the Mullaloo local having earned five podium finishes over the course of her career to date.
With Pilbeam competing in the multiclass PTS4 category, she said it had been a great race for her after losing ground in the opening leg swim.
“I had a great swim and I just can’t match it with those girls with two arms, but that’s ok. I pulled back some time on the bike and the run, and I’m really, really happy with how I raced today.”
Pilbeam’s race splits backed up her summation, with the 40 year-old setting the second fastest cycling leg and the quickest overall run.
The bronze medal was won by 2017 world champion Tani Mami of Japan, whilst Pilbeam’s compatriot Kerryn Harvey raced home in fourth position.
