Water Polo Australia has named an Australian men’s squad featuring six WAIS athletes for a camp in Adelaide (March 27-31) as preparations for this year’s world championships begin.

The squad of 22 includes WAIS scholarship holders; Ed Slade, Joel Swift, Sam Quinn, George Ford, Luke Pavillard and Daniel Lawrence, whilst 2012 London Olympian Aaron Younger is unavailable for the camp due to club commitments in Hungary.

The camp will be held at the South Australian Aquatic Centre alongside the Under 14 National Championships. The training camp will conclude on Sunday 31 March with an All Stars game to be held at 1-2pm.

New Australian men’s head coach Elvis Fatovic said he was looking forward to seeing the group together for the first time and imparting his philosophies.

“I tried to invite all the best players in the Australian clubs to this camp, to introduce myself and the program for this season,” Fatovic said.

“Many of the players cannot attend the camp due to commitments overseas. I will use this opportunity to give a couple of the most talented young players a chance to be part of the Australian camp. Especially those players that play in the positions of centre forward, centre back and left hander.

“I will explain to the players my expectation of them from the period after the National Water Polo League and they must work hard before and between the camps.”

The camp will also host the All Stars concept, which divides the 12 National League clubs into two divisions (North and South), and sees the best players from the 2013 National Water Polo League season battle it out for the third annual Andrew Kerr Cup.

WAIS athletes; Ed Slade, Joel Swift, Sam Quinn, George Ford, Daniel Lawrence and Luke Pavillard will all represent South in the All Stars clash.
