The Australian men’s volleyball team has finished its World Championships campaign with three wins from eight matches played.

With the 2018 competition held across Italy and Bulgaria, the Australians finished fourth in their first round Pool C group – before finishing last in their second round Pool F group.

In the first round, Australia secured passage with wins over Cameroon and Tunisia, whilst dropping matches with Russia, USA and Serbia.

That result was strong enough for progression to the second round, where Australia suffered two straight-sets defeats against Brazil and Belarus, before rounding out their tournament with an impressive three sets to two win over Slovenia.

Western Australian Luke Smith top scored for the Australians with 21 points as the Volleyroos fought back from a set down twice, to win it in a decisive fifth set.

Smith won 18 of 31 spike attempts, whilst also contributing three points from defensive blocks at the net.

WA was also represented by squad members Max Staples and Luke Perry.
