Australia and
China appear set for a two-way battle for the one remaining qualification spot
at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after both nations progressed to the Super Round
undefeated.

Australia eased
through Pool B with three wins from as many matches, whilst China did the same
in Pool A.

It sets up a
virtual head to head, winner takes all scenario between the two nations when
they eventually face-off in the second phase format that completes
the WBSC Asia/Oceania Qualification tournament being held in Shanghai.

Australia got
its campaign off to the perfect start with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Pool B
rivals Chinese Taipei, before dispatching Indonesia 8-0 and closing out the
preliminary stage with another 8-0 victory over Hong Kong.

The Aussie
Spirit will carry over its result against Chinese Taipei into the Super Round,
whilst China will similarly carry over their Pool A victory over the Philippines.
The Philippines were the surprise packet, taking second spot from Pool A, ahead
of the more fancied Korea and New Zealand.

Australia plays
the Philippines on Friday – and assuming they negotiate that challenge and
China defeats Chinese Taipei – the two nations will then play shoot-out for a
spot at the Olympic Games on Saturday.

The Aussie Spirit
squad contains WA athletes Leigh Godfrey and Leah Parry.
