Success for de Rozario on Paralympic Day Eight

Madison de Rozario has come away with two successful results, in the T53/54 5000m and T53/54 4x400m events, on day eight of the Rio Paralympic Games.

In day seven of completion Madison competed in Round One of the T53/54 5000m track event, where she finished in fourth place.

Her qualification race was completed in 11:49.71 and gave her the title of the fifth fastest qualifier heading into the final.

De Rozario raced out of lane three in the final, where she competed against world record holder, Tatyana McFadden.

Madison had an exceptional race, narrowly missing out on the podium, finishing 0.12 seconds behind the bronze medalist and 0.39 seconds behind the gold medal position. 

Despite the tight finish, drawing closer to the end of the Games, the athletes showed signs of fatigue, crossing the finish line slower then they had in the heats.

De Rozario was given limited rest time between events on day eight, having to come out for the T53/54 4x400m event as well.

She competed alongside Angela Ballard, Jemima Moore and Christie Dawes and the team took on Turkey, China and the USA.

China were proven too strong for the Australians in this race coming away with a lead of 14 seconds in order to take the race.

The Australians, who finished with the silver medal, concluded the race in 3:46.63, earning a seasons best time. 

Unfortunately at the conclusion of the race it was found that the USA and Turkey had committed violations, resulting in their disqualifications from the race.

Madison de Rozario will finish her Paralympic campaign on day ten where she is scheduled to compete in the 800m race.
