A last minute goal to WAIS athlete Travis Taylor has secured the WA Thundersticks a precious 3-2 win over the NSW Waratahs in today’s AHL contest in Hobart.

The Thundersticks were looking to shake off the disappointment of yesterday’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Victoria and made an ideal start after just two minutes when Kookaburra hopeful and WAIS scholarship holder Brent Dancer fired home from a penalty corner.

Before NSW had time to regroup, the Western Australian outfit stretched its advantage with WAIS athlete Trent Mitton finishing off a fine team move.

NSW however, returned after the half-time break with a reenergized focus and forced their way back into the contest on 54 minutes when Peter Kelly smashed his effort into the back of the net.

With confidence high and momentum swung, NSW continued to apply offensive pressure on the Thundersticks goal, and it found an equalizer just after the hour mark when Poulton converted another penalty corner for the Waratahs.

The Waratahs expansive attempts to level left them flagging at the death with WA able to create itself a final goal scoring opportunity in the last minute of regulation time. Travis Taylor under extreme pressure produced a fine finish from a penalty corner, leaving the Thundersticks to celebrate, and NSW to rue an opportunity lost.
