The 2016 18U National Aged Club Championships are entering the business end of the competition with day three producing high quality games along with some upsets at Perth’s HBF Stadium.

In Group A of the Boy’s Championships, favourites and number one seed Melville were beaten by UNSW Wests Magpies 15 goals to 14 in the best match of the tournament so far.

The score fluctuated throughout with both teams desperate in attack and defence. It came down to the last minute where Wests scored with 25 seconds to go. Melville tried desperately to respond but their final shot with five seconds to go was blocked.

In the other Boy’s match, Sunshine Coast defeated Victoria to keep their semi-finals chances alive. They’ll face the red hot Magpies, who’ll they’ll need to beat to have a shot.

In Group B of the Boy’s Championship, the UWA City Beach Bears ended the run of the number one NSW team Hunter Hurricanes providing a master class lesson by beating the visitors 19 to 9.

The result ensured that two WA teams, UWA City Beach Bears and Dolphins, will progress to the Championship semi-finals.

The Girl’s Championship saw top seed Croa Sharks defeat number one WA team Melville Sharks, 11 to 6. In the other match, Sydney University beat Ovens and Murray to keep them in the mix for the semi-final.

Group B saw Drummoyne Devils draw with UNSW Wests Killer Whales to make for a tough qualification process for the semi-final. In the other match, SNB Breakers defeated UWA City Beach Bears to extinguish their semi-final hopes.
