The WA team receive instructions during a game

Western Australia’s men’s and women’s teams have earned bronze medals at the recent U20 National Championships held at Perth’s Challenge Stadium.

Both teams progressed to the semi-final stage of their respective tournaments but came unstuck against Queensland opposition, with the men losing 8-5 and the women 15-9.

The result was a disappointing one for the WA men’s team, who had reached the semis undefeated, which included a win over Queensland.

WA rebounded to win the bronze medal match up against the NSW Waratahs (NSW B Team) 6-5. WAIS athlete James Fannon jointly collected the competition’s leading goal scorer award with Victoria’s Blake Edwards.

Australian Stingers representative Zoe Arancini (WAIS-AIS) hit seven goals in WA’s women’s bronze medal effort, easing the hosts to a 15-8 win over Victoria.

NSW Blues claimed the men’s title with a comprehensive 18-6 win over Queensland, whilst Queensland exacted revenge in the women’s final, claiming a 6-5 win over NSW.
