The WAIS men’s and women’s water polo squads have received an early Christmas present with 12 athletes named in senior national squads this week.
Eight WAIS athletes have been chosen in the Aussie Sharks squad that will convene for a January training camp and a series of matches against Turkish side Galatasaray.
2008 Olympians Jamie Beadsworth and James Stanton were named with Luke Quinlivan, Daniel Lawrence, Aaron Younger, Edward Slade, Tim Cleland and Nick O’Halloran joining them in coach John Fox’s squad.
Meanwhile four WAIS athletes have also been selected in the Aussie Stingers squad for a camp to be held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra in early January.
Jemma Dessauvagie, Zoe Arancini, Glencora Ralph and Catherine Ainsworth will all feature in the camp, which has been planned in leiu of an international series.
Coach Greg McFadden is still hopeful of attracting an international team to Australia for a test series in January with the aim of giving the Stingers their first hit out of 2009.
