15 WAIS scholarship holders have taken up the Australian Olympic Committee’s #OlympicDayGoals Challenge to challenge themselves inside or outside of sport to promote healthy and active lifestyles. After setting a goal on June 1 they each have until Olympic Day on June 23 to master the challenge.
They will be sharing their progress over the next three weeks on Instagram so tune in and get on board with setting your own goals.
Tokyo Olympic sailor Matt Wearn has set a challenge of riding 500km by June 23, which will support his preparation for Tokyo and encourage all West Australian’s to be active. While Nia Jerwood also challenging herself on the bike to ride 400km, the return distance between Perth and Collie.
The WAIS artistic swimming squad lead by Rio Olympians Captain Emily Rogers and Hannah Cross have the squad passing a chair from lane to lane while doing eggbeater kick to work on their strength.
Also in artistic swimming Amie Thompson who like Rogers and Cross are headed to Tokyo is practising yoga each day to keep her life in balance.
Olympian and world championship medallist Zoe Arancini is leading the women’s water polo squad in a series of challenge. With Arancini looking to make the perfect arancini ball. Rising star Jamie Oberman has set her own challenge of making a Arancini ball better than Arancini herself. While Tess Hosking wants to do a muscle up so she can do a taste test to decide the winner. In the men’s squad Tim Putt has challenge himself to do 20 consecutive chin ups.
In diving Sophie Ross and Chelsea Bosch have set a goal of a one minute handstand. And Ellyarn Granland to do 15 perfect pike leg lifts.
Jaime Roberts who will make her Olympic debut is challenging herself away from sport to play Beethoven’s Fur Elise on the piano.
Moving away from the boxing ring Caitlin Parker is learning to juggle and wants to be a master come June 23.
Laura Coles who has been selected for Tokyo in shooting is challenging herself to go for a run every day.
