WAIS Cycling Generation Next

WAIS cycling’s generation next has provided an exciting glimpse of things to come with some impressive results domestically over the past week.

With the WAIS Cycling Program having helped launch names such as Cameron Meyer, Josie Tomic, Sarah Kent, Luke Durbridge and Michael Freiberg in recent times, the new clutch of WA cycling talent are already showing signs of following in a similar vein.

17 year-old WAIS scholarship holder Bradley Lindfield managed to turn a few heads last weekend, by finishing second in the general classification standing senior competition at the Tour of Gippsland in Victoria.

Lindfield’s efforts included a stage win, against a selection of the best Australian domestic cyclists competing in the National Road Series.

WAIS Head Coach Darryl Benson claimed that Lindfield’s performance was an impressive one and would hold him in good stead for the big challenges ahead in 2011.

“It was an excellent performance from the 17 year-old racing up in senior competition,” Benson said. “Brad departs for Italy next week as member of National Junior 19 Road Squad for a European racingblock that leads to September’s World Champs in Copenhagen.”

In Perth, WAIS athletes Elissa Wundersitz and Theo Yates won their respective State Junior 17 Road Championships last Sunday in challenging wintery weather conditions. Fellow WAIS Junior athletes Tian Beckett and Reece Tucknott placed second behind Wundersitz and Yates respectively.
