Daniel Bowker will contest the K2 1000m final with fellow WAIS athlete Brodie Holmes

WAIS kayaking athletes have made a strong start to the 2011 Australian Canoeing National Sprint Championships on Adelaide’s West Lakes course.

The hotly contested K1 1000m is set for an exciting finale, after WAIS athletes Reece Baker and Brendan Sarson both qualifying for the A final. The WA pair will face stiff competition most noticeably from Olympic gold medallist Ken Wallace and national team representative Murray Stewart.

WAIS representatives Lachlan Cooke and Daniel Bowker will both compete in the B final.

Bowker and Cooke both have an A Final to look forward to however, after qualifying for the final of the K2 1000m. Bowker teamed with fellow WAIS athlete Brodie Holmes to set the fastest qualifying time for the final, whilst Cooke will partner another up and coming WA paddler Bredan Rice. Baker and Sarson combined and will also compete in the K2 final.

WAIS athletes Jesse Phillips, Stephen Bird, Libby LeCoultre and Alana Nichols are all awaiting action when the K1 and K2 events get underway later in the week.
