600 paddlers will take to the water this Sunday in the prestigious Classic Paddle over 14km from the Narrows Bridge to Fremantle.
WAIS scholarship holder Brendon Sarson (Balcatta) will start as favourite for the race. Sarson has gradually returned to form after a fracture of his second thoracic vertebrae sustained back in July just prior to the Avon.
Fellow WAIS paddlers Daniel Bowker (Kingsley), Brendan Rice (Carine), Jesse Phillips (Nollamara) and Steve Bird (Mt Pleasant) will be amongst the contingent of paddlers vying for places.
Phillips and Bird will also head down south on Saturday to Bridgetown for the Blackwood Marathon Relay event, which is now into its 30th year. Steve Bird is paddling for last year’s winning team and look to be the team to beat again.
