Five WAIS paddlers will line up starting today through till Sunday in the U18 and U23 World Championships in Welland Canada.

It is the first time a world championship has been held at U23 level, and WAIS will have three paddlers in action.

Todd Brewer (South Perth) will be lining up in the K1 200m whilst Phoebe George (Mt Lawley) and Jaymee Lee Martin (Willetton) are Australia’s representative in the K2 500m.

In the U18 events, Shannon Reynolds (Wembley) and Alexander Graham (Mundaring) will contest the women’s and men’s 200m event. Reynolds will have a second event when she competes in the WK4 500.

With the senior World Championships on in Germany at the end of the month, WAIS paddlers on the national team have started to depart our shores.

London Olympian Alana Nicholls (Dianella) left earlier in the week where she will join the rest of the National Women’s team at the European Training Centre in Varese, Italy, whilst members of Australia’s 200m sprint group; Jesse Phillips (Doubleview), Steve Bird (Doubleview) and Brodie Holmes (Sorrento) all depart on Sunday.
