Gemma Beadsworth will compete at a second Olympic Games

Western Australian Institute of Sport water polo athletes Gemma Beadsworth and Glencora Ralphhave today been officially selected by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Beadsworth and Ralph were selected in a strong Stingers squad of 13,with the group tipped as genuine medal contenders after claiming silver at the recent World League Finals in China.

For Beadsworth, London will represent a second Olympic campaign, having competed for the Stingers in Beijing in 2008, where the team won a bronze medal following a penalty shoot-out win over Hungary.

Geraldton born Ralph, will make her Olympic debut in London at the age of 23, and already boasts more than 100 caps for her country.

The water polo will be held at London’s Water Polo Arena within Olympic Park, with the gold medal match scheduled for Day 13, August 9. The Australians have been drawn in Group B alongside Italy, Great Britain and Russia.

Beadsworth and Ralph’s selection has taken WA’s numbers for London up to 18.
