Western Australian Netballers Named for Constellation Cup
Western Australian netballers Caitlin Bassett, Natalie Medhurst and April Brandley have recently been named as part of the Australian Diamonds team set to take on the New Zealand Silver Ferns in the upcoming Constellation Cup.
Following on from their recent success in the 2016 Quad Series, the Western Australian’s have been selected to remain in the Diamonds team for the competition to take place in October.
Very few changes have been made from the team that competed in the 2016 Quad Series, with debutants Kristiana Manu’a and Stephanie Wood being swapped out for Jo Weston and Gretel Tippett.
Diamonds head coach, Lisa Alexander is well aware of the challenges which her side will be faced with in the Constellation Cup, but has confidence that the recently selected team will achieve success.
“After facing the Silver Ferns in the Quad Series, we know we will be challenged in the Constellation Cup. Nothing less than our best will be acceptable in order to retain the Cup. There’s no better sporting rivalry than Australia and New Zealand,” she said.
The 2015 Constellation Cup saw a very even competition take place between the trans-tasman competitors, with both teams winning two games each.
In the final match, played in Perth, Australia came away with the Cup due to their superior percentage.
The first match of the 2016 Constellation Cup will take place in Sydney on Sunday the 19th of October.
