Wilson Earns Hockeyroos Debut Against World Number One

Published On: 21 June 2017

After earning National squad selection in March, WA hockey athlete Georgia Wilson has taken the next step, debuting for the Hockeyroos in the Netherlands over the weekend.

The Hockeyroos were in the Netherlands prior to the commencement of their World League Semi-Final campaign in Brussels, Belgium.

Wilson earned her selection for the World League Semi-Final squad in May following strong performances in training.

In what was no easy task, the young midfielder debuted against world’s top ranked side on their own patch.

This game acted as one of a number of warm up matches the Hockeyroos participated in in the lead up to the World League Semi-Final.

The Hockeyroos begin their Semi-Final campaign in Brussels today, where they take on Malaysia.

Currently ranked fourth in the world, the Australian side must finish in the top five in order to qualify for next year’s World Cup and the top four should they wish to play in the World League Finals in November. The squad also features Western Australian Rio Olympian Kathryn Slattery.
