WA powerlifters Ben Wright and Nang Nguyen have both medalled at the recent National Powerlifting Championships in Queensland.
The pair – who both hold WAIS scholarships – finished in the top three behind competition winner and Paralympian Abede Fekadu.
Wright successfully lifted a 180kg press, whilst Nguyen was clean at 140kg.
In 2014, Wright made his Commonwealth Games debut, competing for Australia in Glasgow – finishing in tenth place.
Both athletes will attempt qualification for the Australian Paralympic Team for next year’s Games in Rio.
Former WAIS athlete and retired powerlifter Darren Gardiner was a medallist in the event at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, whilst also representing Australia at the London Games in 2012.
