WA Olympic and Paralympic triathletes were in action at the recent ITU World Triathlon events in Yokohama.

Bunbury raised Rio Olympian Ryan Bailie raced home for 18th position in the elite men’s race in the Japanese port city.

Bailie clocked a race time of 1:50:27hrs for his top 20 position with Spain earning a 1-2 finish, with Maria Mola claiming victory ahead of compatriot Fernando Alarza.

 

Racing in her first year of elite competition, 21 year-old Jaz Hedgeland finished 28th in the elite women’s field. Hedgeland completed the 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run course in 2:01:52.

The elite women’s title went to Bermudan Flora Duffy, ahead of US pair Katie Zaferes and Kirsten Kasper.

39 year-old para-triathlon world champion Sally Pilbeam earned a silver medal in the women’s PTS4 class in Yokohama. A 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run course saw the Edgewater resident cross home in 1:21:43.

In the men’s PTS2 race, Rio Paralympian Brant Garvey recorded a sixth place finish finishing in 1:19:41. Race victory went to Great Britain’s Andrew Lewis.
