Younger Dreaming of Domestic, European Double with Ferencvaros
A core of WA’s men’s national water polo team members are currently plying their trade in international level European club competitions.
Australian Sharks stalwart Aaron Younger and his Ferencvaros FTC side have qualified for the final of the Hungarian National League after a dominant 3-0 win in a best of five series with rivals Eger in the semis. Younger and his club will play-off for national honours against OSC from May 10.
Ferencvaros will be dreaming of a domestic and continental double, with the Hungarian powerhouse into the final eight of the European Champions League which will be staged in Hannover from 6-8 June.
The European season has come to an end for George Ford with his CN Mataro side eliminated at the quarterfinal stage by Mediterrani. Ford will return to Australia and commence preparations ahead of the international season with the Aussie Sharks.
Tim Putt has been based in Croatia where he has been representing Primorje Rijeka in League Division Two. Combining teams from Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro, Primorje Rijeka attained a top six position on the ladder at the end of the regular season to maintain their position in League Two.
With league positions 5 through 8 engaging in post-season play-offs, Putt’s side will face Zadar in home and away fixtures to determine seventh place overall, after they were knocked to the bottom playoff draw after an aggregate defeat to Solaris.
With three regular season matches remaining for Nicholas Elphick in the Italian A2 competition, RN Sori currently sit in 12th position. Individually Elphick has enjoyed a strong season and currently sits in the top 10 for goalscorers in the division, after he netted three goals in their most recent fixture with Como Nuoto.
Closer to home, Andrew Ford representing Wests Magpies in the Australian National Water Polo League has collected a league winners medal after his side defeated the Drummoyne Devils in the gold medal match in Sydney last weekend.
Ford scored a crucial goal in the final quarter to put Wests in front. A lead they would not squander.
