2010 Sailing Squad Named

The 2010 WAIS Sailing squad has been announced and is a great team of 14 sailors who have all shown promise in both their results and their training commitment.

One of the newest team members Mark Spearman just finished second at the 4.7 Laser Youth World Championships U16 in Thailand. His training partner and fellow Fremantle Sailing Club member Caitlin Elks won the World Championships in the Under 18 female division. This is a fantastic result for them both.

WAISSailinghas four new team members in two classes. Carrie Smith and Ella Clark won the Youth Female National title in January in the 420 class. Matthew Wearn finished second overall in the National Youth Championships, and Mark Spearman won the Laser 4.7 National title, finished second at Worlds and is off to the Youth Olympics in July.

Many sailors from the 2009 team are scholarship holders for 2010, and12 sailors are heading across to International competitions, including World Championships.

Stacey Omay and Chelsea Hall in the 470 Women, Steven Thomas in the 49er, Tim Castles in the Finn, Mark Whittingtonin Laser, Matthew Wearn in the Laser Radial, Carrie Smith and Ella Clark in the 420 and the 470 Women, Patrick Vos and Eamon Robertshaw on the RSX windsurfer and Mark Spearman in the Laser Radial will all compete internationally, and Matthew Jerwood and Tristan Brown will be competing nationally.
