Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement services are provided to support athletes to achieve success in sport and life. AW&E Advisors work with athletes to create the best platform for them to achieve optimal performances, within and outside of their sport, from their first day at WAIS through until, and including, their transition from sport.
Ensuring athletes have more than just sport and are more than just their sport is being having a dual career plan. Athletes are supported to make informed and considered decisions about their journey through sport, and life. Through a multifaceted approach, athletes are provided guidance, resources, and educational opportunities to achieve personal and professional empowerment and become professional, accountable, responsible, and resilient in their approach towards sport and life.

Career & Education

Over 95% of WAIS athletes are studying or working alongside their sporting pursuits.

AW&E Advisors work alongside the staff in the Elite Athlete Education Network to help athletes maintain the balance and flexibility often required when competing at a national and international level.

Conduct & Professionalism

High performance sport is a fast paced and, at times a cutthroat environment. Athletes are asked every day to push their physical, psychological, and emotional limits in their quest for success in their chosen sport. The demands of such an environment can sometimes give rise to complexities, in sport and life, that are not easily resolved or navigated.

AW&E Advisors provide support on managing integrity issues, guidance and support to navigate ethical decision making within the high performance environment and provision of policies and procedures.

Engagement

Positive engagement with the community is essential to our vision of creating community pride and inspiring the next generation. Athletes engage with the community through a range of opportunities including guests at award ceremonies, school and club engagements through to motivational speaking.

AW&E Advisors work with athletes to identify opportunities to engage with local communities, schools, sporting clubs and charities.

Mental Health

Mental health of all athletes and staff is of paramount priority at WAIS. All athletes have access to a psychologist.

The AIS Mental Health Referral Network is a group of expert psychologists and mental health clinicians who understand the pressures and complexity of life in a high-performance setting.

Personal Development

There are so many things we are juggling in life; family, friendships, relationships, study, career progression. Then add elite sport into the mix; training schedule, competition commitments, maintaining optimal nutrition and stakeholder expectations.

AW&E Advisors work to support athletes to development the lifestyle skills that can support WAIS athletes to manage all aspects of life, supporting them to remain on track to achieve their sporting, personal, and professional goals.

An athlete’s journey will include many transitions (in sport and life) as you progress along the high-performance pathway and beyond your sporting career.
