Anstiss Selected for World Youth Cup

Western Australian midcourter Jess Anstiss has been rewarded for an outstanding Super Netball debut season by being named in the 2017 Australian Netball World Youth Cup Team.

The West Coast Fever talent represented her state at 17U, 19U and with the Western Sting in the Australian Netball League before graduating to the elite club competition level.

The 20-year-old has been a regular starter in the Fever line-up since making her debut in Round 1 against the Adelaide Thunderbirds and has shown her strengths across all three midcourt positions throughout the season.

Anstiss’ defensive pressure and timing on the ball has been a feature of her game, with the youngster regularly gaining possession for her side while shutting down her opponents.

Her 26 interceptions are the eighth most in the League, and the most by any midcourter in the competition.

West Coast Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich said Anstiss had deserved her selection for the Australian representative team.

“It’s fantastic to see those performances rewarded with National 21U selection and we look forward to keeping track of her progress in Botswana in July.”

Fellow Western Australian netball product Sophie Garbin was also named as a Training Partner for the World Youth Cup Team following her sensational Australian Netball League campaign, in which she broke the record for most goals scored in a season.

The 2017 Netball World Youth Cup will be held in Gaborone, Botswana from 9-16 July.
