WAIS netballer Caitlin Bassett has been named as the acting vice-captain for the upcoming Australian Diamonds tour of England.

She will partner NSW defender Sharni Layton as vice-captain, with Claire McMeniman landing the role of acting captain for the series.

Caitlin was excited to, “get the opportunity to work on [her] leadership skills and also build on [her] combination with Nat before ANZ begins.”

The team will be playing the England Roses in a three game series which will take place in Liverpool and London.

Diamonds coach, Lisa Alexander said that the opportunity will provide the players with the chance to benchmark themselves against the world number three team as well as to prove themselves on the international stage.

Bassett will be one of the few Diamonds players to return to England for the series following their loss to England three years ago in the same tournament.

As one of the more experienced players of the team Caitlin said she wants to help create a positive environment for the younger, new girls, much like her teammates did in her early years.

Bassett will be playing alongside fellow West Coast Fever team mates Natalie Medhurst, Ashleigh Brazill and April Letton, allowing them the opportunity to get some good practice in before their ANZ season starts on the 2nd of April.

The Diamonds depart for England on Wednesday the 13thof January in preparation for their first match on the 20th of January at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
