Brazill Added to Australian Diamonds Tour of England

WAIS Netballer Ashleigh Brazill has been named as a replacement for the injured Renae Ingles in the Australian Diamonds squad who are set to travel to England for their tour beginning January 20.

Brazill joins fellow West Coast Fever team mates Caitlin Bassett, Natalie Medhurst and April Letton for the tournament which will include three games against the world number three ranked England Roses.

Brazill said, “I’m extremely excited, I wasn’t expecting a call up,

I wish it wasn’t off the back of Renae’s injury and I wish her all the best for her recovery but the way sport is these days you never know when you’ll get your opportunity.”

After injury resulted in the midcourter being unable to continue training with the Diamonds squad in 2012, Brazill returned to the West Coast Fever where she was named as their captain.

Her hard work meant she was rewarded with the opportunity to represent her country in the 2015 Constellation Cup.

It was here in October of this year that Brazill was able to make her long awaited Australian Diamonds debut in the third test of the series in Melbourne.

Brazill is set to play an important role in the side in January as a Centre and Wing Defender who is known for her ability to create turnovers and cover a lot of ground across court.

WAIS and West Coast Fever teammate Caitlin Bassett said, ‘I am super pumped for April and Braz to be included and gain experience at an international level which will of course add to the strength of Fever in 2016.’

The tour will commence with a game at Echo Arena in Liverpool followed by two more games at the Copper Box Arena in London.
