Cameron Meyer announces retirement

The Western Australian Institute of Sport congratulations Cameron Meyer on his successful career following his retirement.

The long-time WAIS scholarship holder and graduate, represented Australia at track and road World Championships, Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games.

Meyer won three junior world titles at the 2006 UCI Junior Track World Championships in Ghent, Belgium, in what would be a sign of things to come.

Between 2009 and 2018, Meyer won 15 medals at Track World Championships including nine gold, the second most of any Australian in history, behind only the great Anna Meares.

His world titles came across the points race, Madison and team pursuit, with Meyer’s tactical ability in the points race and long term partnership in the Madison with Leigh Howard ensuring his name will go down as one of the all time bunch racers.

2010 was one of his finest years as he claimed gold in the points race, Madison and team pursuit at the World Championships in Ballerup, and added three Commonwealth Games gold later in the year across the points and scratch races and team pursuit.

While he may be best known for his exploits on the track, his more than decade career on the road saw him claim national titles in the road race, time trial and criterium as well as Grand Tour stage wins at the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia.
