Cook Named WA Swimmer of the Year

Published On: 22 May 2017

Olympic silver medallist Tamsin Cook was awarded the Lyn McClements medal at the 2017 WA Swimmer of the Year Awards.

Recognised for efforts on debut in Rio last year, Cook took home the top award after a campaign that saw her earn silver as a member of the Australian women’s 4x200m freestyle relay squad.

More recently, Cook has taken time away from the pool to recharge in a bid to make her first Commonwealth Games team for Australia, at next year’s edition on the Gold Coast.

Her coach Michael Palfery was honoured with the Coach of the Year title for his work over the voting period, whilst Cook also collected the Age Group Swimmer of the Year award at the celebrations held at the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough.

Paralympian Jeremy McClure received the Multi-class Swimmer of the Year, Simon Huitenga was awarded Open Water Swimmer of the Year, whilst national champion and 2017 Australian Dolphins team member Holly Barratt was announced recipient of the Perpetual Trophy.
