Western Australian Institute of Sport swimmer Blair Evans has kick started Australia’s campaign at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, qualifying for tonight’s 200m freestyle final.

Evans won the fourth and final heat in a time of 1:59.25min to qualify second fastest behind fellow Australian Kylie Palmer (1:58.71) – providing the Dolphins team members the chance to become Australia’s first medallists when they line up at 6.30pm (Perth time) this evening.

Evans swam a measured race to cruise through her heat, which also contained dual Olympic Champion (400m-800m) Rebecca Adlington of England. Turning second at the 150m mark, Evans hit the wall first and looked composed ahead the evening medal round.
