WAIS swimmer Blair Evans has narrowly missed a bronze medal in the final of the women’s 400m individual medley in Delhi over the weekend, taking fourth place.

Evans – who will go home with a gold medal from the 4x200m freestyle relay – was hoping to take an individual medal to match, but her time of 4:41.51min left her agonizingly short of bronze medallist Keri-Ann Payne (4:41.07) of England.

The City of Perth swimmer swam a solid first 100m to sit third, but was eventually worn down as the quality of the field and her extensive race program caught up with her.

Australian swimming star Stephanie Rice had her Commonwealth Games record broken by Scotland’s Hannah Miley, with the new mark set at 4:38.83, with Australian Samantha Hamill taking silver in 4:39.45.

The Australian swim team again dominated over the Commonwealth, with the Dolphins taking 54 medals away from New Delhi, including a record 22 gold. The womenclaimed 31 medals,15 gold, nine silver and seven bronze. The men took23 medals, sevengold, seven silver and nine bronze.
