WAIS athlete Susan Fuhrmann and her Australian Diamonds teammates outclassed Commonwealth Games home nation India overnight at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex running out 113-18 winners.

Captain Sharelle McMahon and Cath Cox lead were on song under the post in the first half, racing out to a 24-3 lead at quarter-time.

The Diamonds continued their dominance in the second quarter, going into the half time break with a commanding lead, 49-9.

After beating Samoa 76-39 in front a crowd of just 58 on Monday, the Diamonds got the opportunity to experience some big game atmosphere, with whistles and huge cheers greeting every point scored by the home side.

Coach Norma Plummer changed the team around after half time, able to give all her players a run in the lead up to Thursday’s clash with world number four, Jamaica.

Natalie Medhurst and Susan Pratley replaced McMahon and Cox, while Natalie von Bertouch replaced Kim Green in centre, Green moving into wing attack.

However, their inexperienced side, which contained 15-year-old Shireen Limaye, were often left chasing shadows with the impressive Kimberlee Green dominating the centre of the court as Australia turned defence into attack with pace and precision.

The changes did little to disrupt the Diamonds’ rhythm, the Australians showing pace and precision across the court.

The Australians reached 100 goals midway through the final quarter, and continued on to a commanding win, 113 – 18.

Australia 113 (Susan Pratley 39, Catherine Cox 27, Natalie Medhurst 25, Sharelle McMahon 22) defeated India 18 (Kiranjeet Kaur 7, Harminder Kaur 6) at Thyagaraj Sports Complex.
