WAIS-AIS cyclist Cameron Meyer has stamped his authority as the undisputed king of world points racing, with the 2010 and 2009 World Champion dominating the field on his way to a gold medal in Delhi on Wednesday evening.

Meyer claimed three laps on the field as he posted a total of 89 points in the 40km race, a total which was 37 points clear of the silver medallist George Atkins of England. Fellow WAIS-AIS cyclist Luke Durbridge finished in 11th position with three points.

In addition to his three laps he scored in 10 of the 16 sprints, earning the maximum five points in four of them. It was a masterful performance from the Helena Valley product as he controlled the race throughout in his first appearance at a Commonwealth Games.

A Commonwealth Games gold medal caps off a stunning 2010 for the 22-year old, who earlier in the year defended his world title in the same event whilst also picking up rainbow jerseys in the madison and the teams pursuit.

He should have the chance to add to his 2010 resume on Thursday when he takes to track as a member of the men’s 4km teams pursuit team.

Meyer is expected to be subbed into the team which qualified overnight in first place, posting a new Games record time of 4:00.285. Fellow WAIS cyclist Michael Freiberg was part of that team which qualified three seconds clear of New Zealand.

In other cycling results WAIS-AIS rider Josie Tomic finished in 10th position in the women’s 25km points race with a total of two points as she assisted fellow Australian Megan Dunn in claiming the gold medal.
