Jayde Taylor scored a sublime strike in the match against Trinidad and Tobago

The Hockeyroos have made a good start to their 2010 Commonwealth Games campaign with a thumping 11-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday afternoon.

The gulf in class between the Australians and their opposition was evident from the start, with the scoreboard reading 4-0 by half time. However it was in the second half that the greater level of professionalism of the Hockeyroos came to the fore, with the girls in green and gold piling on a further seven goals in the second 35 minutes as Trinidad and Tobago began to tire.

All four WAIS athletes in Frank Murray’s squad took to the field in the opener, with Jayde Taylor, Ashleigh Nelson and Shelly Liddelow all getting on the scoresheet with Taylor’s stunning tomahawk shot in the second half was her first international goal for the Hockeyroos.

Fiona Boyce was the fourth WAIS athlete in action, running hard throughout the match in the Delhi heat whilst playing through the midfield.

The Hockeyroos next match is against the host nation India on Wednesday afternoon.
