The Hockeyroos have remained undefeated at the Commonwealth Games after surviving a tense encounter with the host nation India 2-1.

Despite the girls in green and gold dominating for most of the match it came down the wire, with the home team scoring with just under two minutes to go and reducing Australia’s lead to a solitary goal. They managed to hold off the Indian charge to move to equal top of Group A.

Earlier in the match it was WAIS athlete Shelly Liddelow that opened the scoring following some great lead up work from WAIS stablemate Fiona Boyce in the 10th minute.

Liddelow’s goal kick started the Hockeyroos but despite dominating for the majority of the first half, including six consecutive penalty corners, the score remained 1-0.

Megan Rivers changed that 25 minutes into the second half to make it 2-0 before the tight finish.

Australia’s next game is on Friday against fellow Group A leaders South Africa.
