The Australian Diamonds including WAIS graduates Courtney Bruce and Sunday Aryang have been part of Australian Commonwealth Games history winning netball gold and Australia’s 1000th Commonwealth Games gold.

Having suffered a shock loss to Jamaica, both sides were expecting a tough match for gold. The game was on from the first whistle with both sides aggressive early.

The Diamonds finally found their footing and stormed to a six-goal lead off the back of a Courtney Bruce intercept halfway through the opening quarter, before the Sunshine Girls fought back with margin two goals at the first break.

Scores were tied at half time at 29 goals, before the Diamonds came out firing in the third quarter as consistent pressure saw them run away to a six goal lead with one quarter to play.

Jamaica came out strong and put Australia under threat early, however the Australian defense led by Bruce held up with the Diamonds taking gold 55-51.
