Domestic Sprint Canoe Season Commences
The sprint canoe domestic season launched over the weekend with Grand Prix 1 hosted at Adelaide’s West Lakes course.
2018 Australian senior team member Jaime Roberts celebrated her 28th birthday in style by winning three medals in her first competitive hit-out for the 2019 season.
Roberts teamed with Cat McArthur, Alyce Burnett and Aly Bull to win the K4 500 title with a margin of nearly two seconds over a strong young crew that contained two WA members in Yale Steinepreis and Shannon Reynolds.
Roberts and McArthur also combined in the K2 200 and 500 taking silver in the former and bronze in the latter. They finished third behind Burnett and Bull in the 500 final, with silver going to a visiting French crew of Manon Hostens and Lea Jamelot. The French duo saluted in the 200 final, with Roberts and McArthur best of the Australians in the non-Olympic discipline.
Her race schedule was rounded out by A Final appearances in the K1 200 and 500, with Roberts taking fifth place in both.
Reynolds took second place in the B Final of the K1 200, and was also victorious in the B Final of the K1 500 with Steinepreis in second.
Steinepreis teamed with Ella Beere (NSW) for bronze in the A Final of the K2 200 whilst Reynolds – paddling with Brianna Massie (QLD) finished fourth.
In U18 racing, Yasemin Ray collected a title in the K4 500 and backed that up with a bronze medal efforts in the K2 500 and K1 200 finals.
