Evans Claims Gold in Tokyo

WAIS swimmer Blair Evans has finished the three leg FINA World Cup series with a gold medal in the 400m freestyle in Tokyo for a total haul of five gold and a bronze from six events.

Evans has been in red hot form throughout the series and remained undefeated over the 400m freestyle events, with only the 200m freestyle in Tokyo (bronze) failing to collect gold.

City of Perth club member Evans finished her world cup campaign in style winning gold in the women’s 400m freestyle despite miss-timing her second last turn at the 350m mark.

The West Australian and current Australian record holder in the event won in a time of 4:01.24 from New Zealand’s Melissa Ingram 4:02.03, whilst WestAustralian Merindah Dingjan finished eighth overall in 4:10.88.

Hosts Japan, enjoyed a double in the women’s 200m freestyle, with gold going to Haruka Ueda and silver to Hanae Ito, whilst Evans claimed bronze in 1:55.19.

WAIS athlete Travis Nederpelt competed in the men’s 200m individual medley in Tokyo, finishing eighth in a time of 1:57.56.
