Blair Evans was in fine form at the Short Course States

WAIS swimmer Blair Evans was the pick of the bunch at the Hancock Family Medical Foundation Open and Junior Short Course Championships this week, breaking 22 records during the four day meet.

Evans was one of a number of WAIS swimmers to shine at the meet, held at Challenge Stadium, with fellow scholarship holders Aryton Dickey and Brianna Throssell also breaking numerous records.

18-year old Evans continued her stellar year in the pool, smashing six WA All Comers, six WA All Time and 10 WA Residential Records on her way to claiming five gold medals at the meet. She took out titles in the 200m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 400m individual medley just a week before heading to Rome for the FINA World Swimming Championships.

Her City of Perth teammate Dickey wasn’t to be outdone though, with the former AIS athlete breaking four records whilst putting together a seven gold medal winning meet.

Dickey claimed titles in the 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 100m individual medley, 100m backstroke as well a silver medal in the 100m freestyle.

Young gun Throssell showed that she is a swimmer to watch after breaking 13 records across the meet including three WA All Comers, five WA All Time and five WA Residential records.

The 13-year old from Kalamunda Swimming Club won the title in the 50m freestyle as well as a third place in the 50m butterfly against much more seasoned competitors.
