Full-Throssell as Brianna Wins World Cup Medal Full-Set

Brianna Throssell has continued her superb international form with another medal winning haul at the FINA World Cup meet in Tokyo.

Having last month won two world championship titles in Korea, Throssell looked a picture of confidence in winning the women’s 200m free, taking silver in the 200m fly and earning bronze in the 100m butterfly. The Dolphins star was also a medallist in the 4×100 mixed medley relay for Australia.

Throssell claimed her gold medal in the four-lap freestyle, besting her Australian representative teammate Madison Wilson in second.

Throssell’s time of 1:56.99 was half a second quicker than Wilson in silver, whilst Nagisa Ikemoto of Japan won bronze.

That success came after Throssell had opened her campaign with silver in the 200m fly final, where she finished behind legendary Hungarian star Katinka Hosszu.

She completed her individual program with bronze in the 100m fly, touching home behind Swede Louise Hansson and Ai Soma of Japan.

All that was left was the splash and dash fun in the mixed medley, where she teamed with Mitch Larkin, James McKechnie and Cate Campbell for silver behind a rampant Japan, with Belarus taking third.

Throssell however, wasn’t the only WA star making an impression in Tokyo, with national representative teammates Holly Barratt, Grant Irvine and Nic Brown also in action.

Barratt was victorious in the women’s 50m fly final and was narrowly edged from the podium in the 50m back, taking fourth. In the 100m back final, she couldn’t hold the pace in the back 50, finishing seventh in a race won by Australian Emily Seebohm who had missed Australia’s world championships team.

Irvine collected a silver medal in the final of the men’s 100m fly, whilst Brown dead-heated for sixth place in the final of the men’s 200m fly.
