Australia’s Women’s Artistic Gymnastics team is in second place of the Team Final, and Victoria’s Georgia-Rose Brown leads the All-Around competition, after the first day of qualification at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Australia’s Women’s Team hit eight from eight routines and are the only country to hit all four routines on Uneven Bars. With two strong apparatus to come, the Women’s team is in strong contention for a team medal.

England currently leads on 85.390 with Australia marginally behind on 83.882 with their best two apparatus to follow on Day 2.

The team opened with outstanding Uneven Bar routines which resulted in Larrissa Miller in second position with a score of 14.433 to England’s Rebecca Downie (14.683), followed closely by Georgia-Rose Brown in third (14.083). Both now qualify for the final.

WAIS athlete Olivia Vivian also performed well, finishing fourth (13.800) on Commonwealth Games debut with Mary-Anne Monckton in seventh (13.333).

Australia was the only team in which every gymnast scored over 8.00 for execution on the apparatus.

Brown continued to dominate the competition with an overall score of 13.849 for Vault which saw her qualify sixth for the apparatus and lead the All-Around competition. Lauren Mitchell scored 13.433 on vault, with Vivian adding 12.533.

Mitchell will headline Australia’s gold medal push on Day 2, with her pet events (floor and beam) both being held, with Vivian again expected to contribute significant support to Australia’s total.

The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics competition continues tonight with Australia competing on Floor and Beam from 2.45am AEST- watch live on Glasgow 6 on TenPlay.
