Caitlin Bassett top scored for Australia

In a rematch of the Delhi 2010 gold medal match, Australia will play New Zealand for Commonwealth bragging rights after both nations won their respective semi finals clashes to advance to Sunday’s final.

Australia proved too strong for a spirited Jamaican outfit, recording a 57-42 win, led by another strong shooting performance from Western Australian pair Caitlin Bassett and Natalie Medhurst.

Bassett sunk 41 goals for the Australians, whilst Medhurst added 16 with five goal assists in another strong display.

The early exchanges failed to decisively separate the sides, with Australia forging a four goal lead in the first term, only to see Jamaica peg it back in the second, to trail Australia by just one goal at half time.

The Diamonds took control during a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Jamaicans 16-9, with Kimberlee Green impressive in centre court, whilst Julie Corletto and Laura Geitz shut down on the Jamaican shooters.

Australia extended their lead in the final quarter, eventually posting a 15 goal win. They’ll face New Zealand who won an incredible semi final with England 35-34, after Maria Tutaia shot the winning goal with a second left.

England held possession with less than 20 seconds to go, but they coughed up the ball and ultimately the match when a win or at least overtime had appeared more likely.

The final will be held at 7.30pm Perth time, with the game certain to be another thriller between the sport’s best of enemies.
