Western Australian diver Maddison Keeney has won a bronze medal in the women’s 3m Synchro at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Competing with Annabelle Smith, Keeney performed admirably on Commonwealth debut, with a series of stunning dives earning the pair a score of 294.72 from their five dives in what was a tight and absorbing final.

England won gold with a score of 300.24 with Canada earning silver (295.65) in a gripping final, that kept supporters on the edge of their seats.

Keeney and Smith opened their repertoire with a back dive for 49.20 points, before adding a reverse dive, an inward 2 ¬Ω somersault and a stunning forward 3 ¬Ω somersault for their highest return of 68.82. The pair closed their campaign and earned bronze with a well executed forward 2 ¬Ω somersault with a twist.

The medal is the start of a busy schedule for Keeney, who will also contest the individual 1m and 3m springboard events, with the 3m in particular a strong medal chance for the 18 year-old.

The now Brisbane based diver, who is training at the AIS Centre of Excellence, will next contest the 1m springboard, on August 1, with qualifying from 5.05pm Perth time. The final is scheduled for 1.05am (Aug 2) before she contests her pet event 3m springboard on August 2, with qualifying again at 5.05pm, with the final at 1.05am (Aug 3).
