Adelaide Hart and Brianna Throssell head the next generation of promising WA swimmers

WAIS swimmers Adelaide Hart and Brianna Throssell have been earmarked as potential stars in the next generation of Australian swimmers, with the pair both being selected in a national future female sprint talent squad.

14-year old Hart and 13-year old Throssell are both recent additions to the WAIS swimming roster and have made an early impression, gaining invitations to the future female sprint talent squad which will convene in a camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in early September.

The camp in Canberra will cap a busy couple of months for Hart who has recently returned from representing Australia in the Trans Tasman Series and will soon depart for the Telstra Australian Short Course Championships in Hobart.

The Short Course Championships will be the Applecross Swimming Club based swimmer’s first open national comeptition, pitting the rising star against the very best in Australian swimming. In a daunting debut she will face off against the likes of Libby Trickett in her preferred freestyle sprint events.

Hart’s participation in the Trans Tasman series this month has been an ideal preparation for the rising star’s first open nationals, with the East Coast tour providing her with ample opportunities to race.

WAIS Swimming Performance Manager Greg Hodge was delighted with Hart’s performances during the Trans Tasman series and said her effort in winning the 50m freestyle skins event in Wodonga was particularly pleasing.

“The skins format is a combination of tactics, as in pacing over multiple races in a short period, fitness as in being able to repeat consistently, and speed, as in ultimately being the fastest at the final stage,” Hodge said.

“Winning the skins is an awesome result and is a testament to not only her speed but her fitness as well.”

Hart will finalise her preparations for the short course event under her coach Kareena Preston at the Applecross Swimming Club, before departing for Hobart next week.
