Hooker and Parnov Nominated for Sports Performer Awards

Steve Hooker: nominated for Sports Performer of the Year Award

WAIS gold medal winning pole vault athlete and coach combination Steve Hooker and Alex Parnov have both been nominated for awards at the 2008 Australian Sports Performer of the Year Awards.

Hooker – who vaulted to an Olympic record in claiming Australia’s first men’s field gold in 60 years in Beijing – was nominated for the Australian Sports Performer of the Year for 2008 along with Stephanie Rice, Matthew Mitcham, Emma Snowsill, Craig Alexander, Ken Wallace, Stephanie Gilmore and Lance Franklin.

Hooker’s coach Alex Parnov was also nominated in the Coach of the Year category and will go head to head with Australian sport heavyweights Alastair Clarkson, Des Hasler, norma Plummer and Aurelio Vidmar.

The Australian Sports Performer of the Year Awards is determined by public votes through Fairfax media publications with the awards to be announced at a Gala evening at Melbourne’s Crown Casino on November 26.
