Western Australian slalom canoe athlete Robin Jeffery has earned selection for the 2015 senior Australian national team following strong performances at the weekend selection trials in Penrith.

South African born Jeffery – who represented his adopted country Australia at the 2012 London Olympic Games – was listed as one of three men in the C1 class, with the WAIS athlete joined by fellow Western Australian Olympian and former WAIS scholarship holder Kynan Maley, who has recently returned from a competitive break.

The pair competed together in London in the C2 class, and will once again take on the world’s best in 2015, with the Australian team set to tackle the world cup circuit before the year’s peak event, the Slalom Canoe World Championships in September, which will be held at the familiar venue of the Lee Valley White Water Centre in London, scene of the Olympic course.

Jeffery claimed the C1 men’s invitational event at the Australian Open on the weekend, recording a time of 96.06 without any penalties to put himself in selection frame, before Maley earned his spot by finishing second in a world class field in the men’s international C1, clocking 92.19 without penalty, to finish behind Frenchman Denis Gargaud (91.91), with Slovakian Patrik Gajarsky third in 94.09.
