Olympian Robin Jeffery has produced his best result of the season to finish 16th in the men’s C1 semi-final at the ICF Slalom Canoe World Cup event in Slovenia.

The WAIS scholarship holder recorded a clean run of 115.18 to finish 9.42 seconds behind semi-final winner Benjamin Savsek who used his home course knowledge to perfection.

The popular Slovenian dominated the semi-final finishing more than three seconds ahead Croatian Matija Marinic with Poland’s Grzegorz Hedwig finishing third 0.79 seconds further adrift.

Although Jeffery missed the top ten final cut-off, the 25 year old will be relieved to have cracked the top 20 for the first time this year at international level after dominating the National circuit in Penrith and Tasmania earlier in the year.

Despite Savsek’s semi-finals dominance, a horror run in the final saw the home town hero finish ninth after incurring a series of gate touch penalties. Victory was taken by fellow Slovenian Anze Bercic, with German Franz Anton second and Marininc third.

Olympic silver medallist Jessica Fox enjoyed an historic campaign in Tacen, winning gold medals in both the women’s C1 and K1 events – the first time a female paddler has managed the feat at World Cup level.
