Kyle Lee selected in open water team for 2022 FINA World Championships in Hungary

Rising open water swimmer Kyle Lee has been selected to the Australian Dolphins Team for the 2022 FINA World Championships in Hungary later this year.

It is a debut open team selection for the 20-year-old who impressed at the National Championships in January, winning bronze medals in the 5km and 10km races. Before adding a maiden Rottnest Channel Swim title to his name in February.

In Hungary he will focus on the 5km distance as he builds towards the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.

Swimming Australia State Technical Director – WA & SA, Mel Tantrum has been appointed Open Water Head Coach for the Championships.

“It’s a great opportunity to mix with the world’s best on the world stage just two years out from the Paris Olympics,” she said. 

“There’s a great mix of experienced athletes like Chelsea, a rising star like Nick and rookies like Moesha, Kyle and Finella, all of whom will be aiming for strong performances at these World Championships.

“It is an exciting time for these athletes and coaches, and a chance for the Australian Dolphins to showcase their talents internationally for the first time since Tokyo.”
