WAIS graduate Madison de Rozario has created completed a third major championships golden double, racing to victory in the women’s T53/54 in Birmingham.

Having dominated to win the Marathon T53/54 on the opening day, de Rozario started the 1500m as the overwhelming favourite as the defending champion and Tokyo bronze medallist.

Confirming her status as one of the best wheelchair races in the world, she went to the front and controlled the race tactically, with nobody able to challenge her.

With gold to her name she successfully repeated her 2018 Games, winning the 1500 and marathon double, adding to her 800m and marathon titles at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

“That was a cagey race and it got a bit tricky towards the end; I’m happy to come away with that one,” said de Rozario.

“I didn’t nail it out there, I made a few mistakes, but it all came together and I was really happy with it.

Sarah Edmiston claimed silver in the women’s F42-44/61-64 discus with a throw of 34.96m. She has now won medals at the Paralympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
